Today, we are going to start drawing isometeric drawings in our first year CAD class. In order to help these student visualize 3D parts, my second year CAD students will be printing out the parts on the MakerBot. Here is an example (more to come) of these parts:

Up and running
Wahoo... we made our first part today! While looking at the electronics board for the MK5, it was suggested that we check out thingverse for one of the pre-designed holders (which is what we did). While not totally succesful, it still worked!! More pictures under the link on the right.

On hold...
The building of the MakerBot is currently on hold... we did not get the relay board for the MK5. I ordered one today off the site, so hopefully it will be here soon!

Kit of Parts
Wahoo... the kit of parts for our MakerBot arrived on October 21st, 2010. We were a little over-whelmed by the total number of parts that came in the box. Luckily, we have some pretty good kids who are willing to step up and help in the build process.
After working on building this for a couple of days, I can definitely tell that some serious thought, design, and engineering has gone in to creating this device! Everything fits together perfectly, and plans to put it together are clear and straight-forward.
I'm impressed so far... students and I cannot wait until it is 100% up and running!
